The second of our webinars for 2024 will be held on Tuesday 13th February at 12 noon.
Our panellists Morgan Stephen Milne and Michael Jarvis will be outlining some of the fundamental principles of Passivhaus design, in the context of the emerging discussions on the Scottish Passivhaus Equivalent legislation, which is due to be released for consultation later this year.
The first presentation will guide you through the five key principles of Passivhaus and the fundamentals which need to be considered when designing to meet the standard or an equivalent. We will also discuss where these considerations diverge from typical practice and in turn the implications that these could have on housing design on a site-wide and house type level.
Background
In December 2022 the Scottish Government, in response to a private member’s bill raised by Alex Rowley MSP, made a commitment to legislate by December 2024 to deliver:
“A Scottish equivalent to the Passivhaus standard.”
The new standard will be delivered through the Scottish Building Regulations and in recent months the Building Standards Division have carried out a series of events in conjunction with Built Environment – Smarter Transformation (BE-ST). These are intended to initiate a conversation with stakeholders across the construction industry to determine what this new standard could look like.
It is anticipated that a formal consultation will be published by the Scottish Government this year, and in advance of this our webinar series will guide you through the various aspects of Passivhaus design and how these may be adopted and integrated within the Building Regulations.
