We are delighted to welcome Ben Cornelius to the MAST team.  Ben joins us on a six month placement as part of the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce ‘Step Up to Net Zero’ Programme (SUTNZ), with the aim of formalising our net zero and sustainability targets, looking at our digital footprint, providing climate and circular economy related training to our team, and offering suggestions to minimise waste.

Ben noted: “I am excited about the potential of the circular economy and how it can positively affect the built environment, and look forward to working with MAST to put in place practical measures which will contribute to their wider sustainability targets”.

The SUTNZ team have been immensely supportive of our aims, and our assessment by Alexina Cassidy of Act Now Consulting Ltd  was invaluable in establishing an action plan for the practice.  By applying the principles of the circular economy to the way we design buildings, we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions whilst creating urban areas which are more liveable, productive and sustainable.  A focus on circular economy principles could reduce global CO₂ emissions from building materials by 38% by 2050, reducing demand for steel, aluminium, cement and plastic.  As a practice we are always interested in collaborating with cross-sector specialists and are keen to engage with all aspects of our supply chain to ensure sustainability is embedded throughout our business.

Step Up to Net Zero has been designed as a demonstrator to address several of Glasgow City Council’s key priorities:

Reaching Net Zero by 2045 (or sooner) and being a circular economy city by 2045
