The Sawmills

Working in partnership with CCG (Scotland) Ltd, a Planning Application has been submitted for the delivery of 46 new one and two-bedroom flats on a prominent site at Bearsden Road, Glasgow, adjacent to the Forth and Clyde Canal.  The development is being brought forward on behalf of Partick Housing Association and Hanover Scotland, with the latter managing 24 units for dedicated elderly-amenity use.

The proposal occupies the site of the former Temple Sawmills, part of which was most recently in use as a bar and restaurant but has been vacant since 2004.  Following extensive assessment which indicated that retention of the building was not financially viable, the site will be cleared to allow a new high quality affordable housing scheme to rise in its place.  This aligns with key strategic objectives set down by Glasgow City Council to improve affordable housing supply in the city’s western neighbourhoods, with the resulting development adhering to the principles of the Glasgow Standard in terms of space standards and energy performance.

Accommodation is split into two flatted blocks which adopt distinctive ‘sawtooth’ roof profiles, each employing a restrained masonry material palette.  Dedicated resident parking is incorporated within the heart of the site, with a new linear open space linking the interior with Bearsden Road, incorporating high quality hard and soft landscaping treatments in addition to opportunities for public art.

Construction work on ‘The Sawmills’ is due to commence in mid-2021.
