Herald Property Awards 2018: Commendation, Affordable Housing Development of the Year
Completed for Cunninghame Housing Association in Ardrossan, Ayrshire, this development delivers 70 units in a mixture of two and three-bedroom dwellings consisting of family houses, cottage flats and three storey common-close flats for social rent.
The site occupies part of a large former industrial site within the town, formerly occupied by a fuel refinery and subject to ongoing regeneration initiatives. Its coastal location offers uninterrupted views across the Firth of Clyde and sits adjacent to an established residential area, this comprising a mixture of older sandstone villas and more recent 20th century development.
The scheme has been influenced by the principles of Designing Streets, offering a dense mix of hard and soft landscaping elements intended to promote a more pedestrian-centred approach.
A robust masonry material palette was adopted throughout, establishing a common language across different dwelling types. This is complemented by various brick detailing features and areas of metal cladding, offering visual interest with a high-quality finish.
