Link Group
Location: East Kilbride
Project value: £14.0m
Completion Date: 2020
We continued our relationship with The JR Group and Link Group on this major regeneration project in East Kilbride. The completed project, known as Lawknowe Court, provides a total of 105 mixed tenure flats and two-storey houses, including dedicated retirement homes. Brought forward by developer Swan Group, the project saw the redevelopment of a former football centre to the north of East Kilbride’s town centre, responding to local housing demand with much-needed warm and healthy homes.
Three four-storey flatted blocks are positioned to address the site’s northern aspect to Law Place, sitting at the top of an embankment rising from the road below. A larger six-storey block is located at the entrance to the site on Markethill Road, with three blocks of terraced housing located to the interior. The taller massing around the perimeter works with local topography to create ‘markers’ which reinforce the prominence of this elevated corner site.
A simple formal approach has been adopted throughout the site, utilising a palette of masonry and weatherboard cladding, augmented with instances of brick detailing to provide a degree of articulation to the streetscape. Combined with a site-wide planting and landscaping strategy, an attractive residential ‘street’ is created which provides cohesion to the completed project.
All dwellings are designed to achieve Silver Aspects 1 and 2, whilst the project as a whole follows the requirements of the client’s Design & Technical Briefs, covering criteria such as dwelling sizes and specification.
