- Winner, Best Housing Project
Located in Dalrymple, this development provides 11 two-bedroom properties for social rent, including two dwellings for elderly-amenity use and one bespoke wheelchair accessible bungalow. The project was delivered as part of CCG and East Ayrshire Council’s strategic partnership, which will see approximately 270 new build homes delivered over the next four years.
The site layout consists of four terraced blocks, grouped around a new access road with incurtilage parking to the front of each property, providing pedestrian access to an existing area of green space at one end. Blocks adopt a robust render and masonry aesthetic, the latter incorporating various detailing treatments to enhance visual interest within the site.
Internal layouts for the individual house types were developed through a collaborative ‘workshop’ process, with input from a variety of stakeholders including Occupational Therapists and the local authority’s housing staff. This process has delivered homes which are compliant with the principles of Housing for Varying Needs and Lifetime Homes, facilitating easy adaptation to suit changing circumstances of residents over time.
The building envelope has been considered on a ‘fabric first’ basis to achieve Silver Aspects 1 and 2, ensuring that high levels of thermal performance are achieved in addition to the use of photovoltaic panel arrays to each dwelling. High levels of air tightness have also been maintained via the contractor’s off-site timber frame system, its factory controlled nature ensuring high levels of accuracy are realised and minimising construction time on site.
