Our residential scheme at Bearsden Road in Glasgow has now completed, with all 46 properties now handed over and residents beginning to move into their new homes. The development, delivered by CCG (Scotland) Ltd. on behalf of Partick Housing Association, offers a range of one and two-bedroom dwellings for affordable and mid-market rent, including a number of dedicated wheelchair-accessible homes.
The project occupies a prominent site in the city’s Anniesland area, overlooking the Forth & Clyde Canal and a major route between Bearsden and Anniesland Cross. Twin five-storey blocks address these key features; the main design moves drawing on the site’s former use as a timber sawmill. Serrated roof form recall the industrial buildings which once stood on the site, whilst both blocks are finished in a simple masonry skin articulated with alternating projecting coursing and precast elements. This lends the scheme a distinctive sense of weight and an urban presence which befits its very public context.
The works are accompanied by a range of public realm interventions, including a new communal space which links the canal walkway with Bearsden Road itself. This is enhanced with extensive planting and high-quality streetscape elements, alongside public artwork which provides a thematic link between the site’s history and its new role.
This has been a challenging project to bring forward, and we’re delighted to see the scheme completed, making a significant contribution to the provision of much-needed affordable homes in the area. Our thanks to all our project team partners for their efforts!
